Join Adrian Klein and Kevin McNeal for a spectacular outing into the historic and lush Columbia River Gorge. This is one of Adrian's favorite places to photograph and can't wait for spring time as the photographic opportunities here are endless. We will hike into some amazing waterfalls with lush vibrant green moss like only an enchanted forest paradise would have. The wildflowers on the plateau and hills are usually worth the visit alone and we will see these as well. Orchards fill the Hood River Valley and offer views of the spring blossoms and near by mountains. There truly is something for everyone on this tour!
Itinerary:
Friday to Sunday we will be staying in the splendid Gorge photographing from sunrise to sunset with a midday break on Saturday. This weekend workshops start in the afternoon on Friday and conclude after check out time on Sunday. Most of the time will be in the field outside of a presentation and processing session on Satruday. Please bring images from your current portfolio of work should we have time to cover critiques.
Lodging:
You are welcome to stay where ever you like yet we strongly suggest lodging where we will be staying and doing the presentation. We will be staying at the Best Western in Hood River. This is where we will be doing our presentation portion of the workshop. Here is the link if you would like to lodge here:
Lodging is not covered with the workshop cost. Mention NW Photo Tours when booking your lodging you will receive a discounted rate.
Meals:
We will eat most if not all meals together as this time is an important part of each workshop, this will range in price from Subway to a local brew pub. The meals are not included with the workshop cost. Please bring snacks and fluids with you in case you need a recharge in the field between meals. We will have breakfast at Best Western since it's included when you stay there.
Transportation:
For transportation it will be up to each participant to make their way to the workshop. We however encourage carpooling to make parking and traveling easier during the workshop, plus making new friends, along with this being friendlier on our environment.
Physical Activity Level:
This workshop will require some hiking of up to 3 miles in a day ranging from mostly flat to moderate inclines. You will want to ensure you are fit and ready for physical activity before showing up in order to get the most from this workshop.
What To Bring:
In regards to camera gear you will want at minimum a SLR Camera (digital or film), tripod, remote trigger release, polarizer filter, cloth to wipe lens, headlamp, wide angle lens and a zoom lens. I discuss this topic more on the FAQ page. As for clothing you will want good hiking shoes/boots. Avoid cotton like blue jeans. Bring rain jacket/pants if you can. Weather in the Gorge in Spring can change rapidly from sunshine to pouring rain, and can vary from warm to very chilly in the mornings. If you get cold easily, hat and gloves will be a must as well.
And don't forget to bring your enthusiasm and excitement to learn more, see new places and meet like minded people!
